Firm History

Honeycomb

The law firm of Murphy Desmond S.C. was founded in April 1931 under the name of Kuehl and Crownhart by Frank W. Kuehl and C.H. Crownhart, Jr.  Our first office was at the Tenney Building on the Capitol Square in Madison, Wisconsin.  Robert B. Murphy served as the first clerk of the original Firm from July 1931 to June 1932, and then became a partner in the successor Firm of Crownhart & Murphy.Capital

During the ensuing years, various individuals joined the firm, including John P. Desmond in 1955. After several name changes, the firm became known as Murphy Desmond S.C. in September of 2002.

After a number of office relocations (necessary to accommodate growth), the firm moved back to the Capitol Square in the late 1980s, occupying two floors of the Manchester Place building.Commitment to clients Later in 2007, the firm, which has nearly 50 attorneys, will move again to the other side of the Capitol Square at the newly constructed 33 East Main Street building.
